Knife Making 101… a lot better than Biology 101

While you were sitting through your Intro To ‘insert boring subject here,’ I was taking a knife making class. Much like you might have had trouble understanding your professors, I barely understood anything my teacher was saying. Despite this, I ended up with a decent finished product. (And I am pretty positive it was more enjoyable than your Intro To ‘insert boring subject here.)

It took some convincing, but they finally got skis on my feet!

After a while of much needed convincing, I piled into the car with Margit, Vigdis, and Ingrid to embark on my first real skiing adventure.

A short (and completely near-accident free) drive later, we strapped on our skis and hit the snow. If only “strapping” on the skis is as easy as it sounds. I struggled just putting them on– there was no hiding my newb status.

I have to say, I didn’t fully believe Margit when she told me how fun cross country skiing can be. Turns out she was right, which was a pleasant surprise. Perhaps next time it won’t take quite as much convincing to get those skis on my feet!

Julebakst… A week of Christmas baking!

While it snowed (and snowed, and snowed,) this past week, I was inside a warm kitchen with the pleasant smells of cinnamon, cloves, and anise to keep me company. I spent this last week baking traditional Norwegian Christmas cookies, breads, and treats. I can now say I am sufficiently in the Christmas Spirit. When there wasn’t half mixed dough stuck to my fingers I picked up my camera and snapped some shots to document the time. Take a look!

Thanksgiving: Mat i det… Janie’s house

After enduring an emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting trip earlier this week, our class was in need of some healing. We made our way over to Janie Therese’s house for what proved to be the perfect remedy.

Candles were lit, which automatically ups the cozy factor.

The guys manned the grill, while the girls prepared the food indoors.

We all gathered and shared laughs while the bread baked in the oven.

I captured the many angles of the set table as I’ve done at mom’s many dinner parties.

Before we began eating we made the rounds and each said something we were thankful for.

Our day was topped off by great desserts. Although there was no Thanksgiving pie, we had an amazing apple cake with whipped cream.

This year’s Thanksgiving wasn’t traditional, but it was very cozy. Or should I say, veldig koselig!
